ACE Lesotho MTB Team
A UCI MTB Team with a difference!
The purpose of the team is to identify cycling talent from the developing nations of Africa, particularly Lesotho and give those riders an opportunity to cycle on the world’s biggest MTB stages.
The team has a proven record of seeing young riders aspiring to big dreams, developing self-confidence and rising above the poverty and hopelessness that they were born into. Four of the 2014 team members have lost either one or both parents, which is not uncommon in a country with such a high HIV/AIDS rate.
Some of the team’s amazing highlights include:
- First African team to register as UCI MTB Team
- Team ranked in top half of UCI world rankings = 44th out of 109 teams
- First black African woman to win a podium spot in UCI accredited race.
2016 Goals include:
- To see the team represented in at least 15 international quality races in 2016 .
- To qualify for RIO 2016 Olympic Games (see update)
- To prepare a competitive team for 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games
- To win at least 3 National Championship titles.
- To initiate a grass-roots development programme for children, involving at least 100 local children.
- To provide 365 day media coverage through website, Facebook and Twitter.
